This site is the 2001-2003 archive site of the Future Physical commissioning, presentation and networking programme placing the body at the centre of digital interaction. This major cultural programme in East England presented some 70 events and engaged over 59,000 people in body technology research and debate in the areas of:-

Wearable Computing and Smart Textiles;

Bio-Technology,

Eco-technology and

Responsive Environments.

Future Physical was a cultural programme exploring the changing boundaries between the virtual and the physical.

Future Physical aimed to explore how the creative use of digital technologies could enhance and extend human interaction.

Future Physical sought to activate, inform and engage a broad and diverse community, focusing on innovative physical/digital research.

• Can technology enrich our experience of life and human interaction?
• How will the human body interact with digital tools in the future?
• What is natural? What is live? What is authentic?

The Future Physical programme was structured around four research strands:

HOW TO USE THIS SITE

There are six main sections:

Calendar
A an at a glance view of what events took place when and where.

Programme
An introductory overview of the programme and route through to information on the exchanges, commissions, co-productions and other events

Interactive
Hosting a Gallery (with digital life, games and other small scale artist b works commissioned for this site) and Debate Forum and the place to view live web casts and archived video recordings.

Commissions
Project information on the research projects, performances and installations, reactive objects and online virtual environments/web projects created for the Future Physical programme

Exchanges
The place to find full programme information on the Four Network Exchange Events - Interchange gatherings and Public Events - taking place between September 2002 and April 2003 in locations throughout East England

Research
An archive for research outputs evolving out of the four research areas of Future Physical (working group process notes, participants information and event reviews) plus info on other areas of research within Future Physical
