Process
Research Processes
- Focus on case studies which illustrate novel approaches to creative user participation within digital installation, performance and exhibition environments
- Developers share a common interest in the development of social, multi-person activities using motion and movement as content and interface. Case studies are at early development stage, prototyping new experiences
- User research activities are integrated as part of the design and development of the work and undertaken on site at the location of presentation
Research Participants
- Novice, semi professional and specialist users of arts and body-technology events
- Public audiences, invited community groups and online users
- Children, young people, adults, families and specific artistic and social groups
Research Team
- Multi disciplinary teams including Case Study artists, Video Documenters and Specialist Researchers
- Specialist researchers come from the field of computer games, dance /movement and marketing/communications
- Researchers work together on site to gather data from different viewpoints
Research Method
- User Testing, Experience Workshops, User Feedback, Vox Pop Interviews, Profile Questionnaires and Video Documentation
- Methodologies focus on documentation, observation and dialogue arising from naturally occurring interactions and reflective personal accounts
Research Analysis
- General findings are debated and evalulated within a Developers Exchange
- Analytical strategies are evolved related to the
overall theme and research areas:
- Overall Theme: ResponseABILITY
- Does interactive digital art respond to the creative interests and behaviour of the user? Does the user respond to the creative potentials of interactive digital art?
- Four Research Areas
- Role of the User
- Interface and Interaction
- Desire and Reward
- Information and Communication
Research Outputs
- Critical Writing reports by fieldwork researchers are produced for the Case Study development team
- Summaries published as report and DVD for network
- Website as archive and wider dissemination tool
